혼자 가는

나는 술을 마시지 않는다. 담배도 피우지 않는다. 함부로 놀지도 않는다. 파티도 가지 않는다. 그래서 내가 재미없다고? 맞다. 하지만 내가 절대 닮고 싶지 않은 사람들의 눈에 재미없는 존재라면, 그것만큼 완벽한 성공이 또 어디 있겠는가.

잘 들어라. 자기 확신이 없는 사람만이, 다른 사람이 같이해야만 옳다고 느낀다. 진짜 자신감이란, 남들이 뭐라 하든 상관없이, 오직 나에게 최선인 길을 가는 데서 나온다. 그리고 때로는 혼자 가야 할 길이라 해도, 주저함 없이 나아가는 것.

내 자신감은 내가 나를 밀어붙이는 데서 나온다. 해야 할 일과 내가 하는 일 사이에 틈을 남기지 않는 데서 비롯된다. 지금 내 곁을 봐라. 누가 있나? 아무도 없다. 그리고 난 그걸로 충분하다.

 

I don’t drink; I don’t smoke; I don’t mess around; I don’t party. Am I lame for that? Absolutely. But to be lame in the eyes of somebody I would never want to be like, is nothing but an absolute success in my eyes. You see, it is certainly an uncertain person that needs company in what they do to feel like it’s the right thing. Real confidence stems from doing what’s best for you, even if that means doing it alone. My confidence comes from consistently pushing myself and leaving no gap between what needs to be done and what I do. Look who’s out here with me; nobody. And that’s just fine.
